Scary reading nights this weekend

The reading nights started on Thursday and will end this Sunday, January 22, 2023 in France. In Reunion, a hundred activities are planned, mainly around fear, the chosen theme this year. We go through the program.

For its seventh edition, the national Reading Nights event takes place everywhere in France from January 19 to 22, 2023, at the initiative of the National Book Center and the Ministry of Culture. As every year, libraries, media libraries, bookstores, mobilize around the pleasure of reading and a theme in particular. The one elected in 2023? Fear!

In total, around 120 activities are planned across the island between 19 and 22 January 2023. Writing and drawing workshops, performances, storytelling, exhibitions… anything that makes you shiver. You can find the full program at https://www.reunion.gouv.fr/IMG/pdf/programme_2023.pdf

It is so that in Saint Pierre this Friday evening at 19:00, the public has a meeting with the family, around a poetic show, entitled “Keep the fear under the stars”, by P’tite Scène qui Bouge, in the media library Raphaël Barquisseau. You will also find a show at Le Tampon, on the terrace of the MJC, on Saturday at 19:00 (registration on 0262 55 02 19).

This Saturday, January 21, 2023, still in the media library of Saint Pierremake way for an over 15s writing workshop from 2pm to 4pm (registration on 0262 32 62 57), then a Cabaret Quintet performance by the Reunion Island Improv League, from 6pm.

At the Ligne Paradis media library, from 9am to 6pm, the public is invited to share their spooky reads.

Still in the south to stampsthe media library has also created a whole program.

This Friday, January 20 from 19:00 the contemporary art exhibition by the collective Tampon La Box will be open: dedicated to the Night, it invites the public to plunge into the darkness and discover the works with the light of the mobile phone. Also at 19:00, thrill-seekers will be able to attend a fantastic screening of the film “Même pas fête!”, the international fantasy film festival in La Réunion.

Another original activity in the media library Tampon, a “kill fest” hosted by Legend Makers, on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. Goal: to investigate the storyteller’s disappearance from the library as a group. Amandine Bazin will lead writing workshops on thrillers and witches (at 17:00, registration on 0262 55 02 19), when Marie Capron will present her thrillers, entitled “Priya, the butcher’s daughter ” (at 3:30 p.m.).

to Saint JosephThe Media Library of Sud Sauvage is hosting a Mysterious Disappearance in the Media Library escape game this Friday, January 20 at 6:00 p.m.: all the employees have disappeared after closing… paranormal investigators are sent in to find out what happened passed (registration at 0262 35 80 60).

Saturday January 21, from 16-18, Zistwar Kap Kap! returns to the practice of “rakontaz zistwar”, about the settlement of the island from the end of the 17th century (in registration on 0262 35 80 60).

On Sunday afternoon, from 14.30 to 17.00 we will tell stories there again, but through Asia on the occasion of the Chinese New Year, with the storyteller from KozNanik.

In the Mountain Library in Saint Denis, children ages 8 and up are invited to attend a writing workshop led by Frédérique Guillaumat on Saturday, January 21, to soothe themselves in case they find themselves alone at night in the library. From 19:15 to 20:15, Patricia Médioga will be involved in a story on the theme of fear, while interacting with the public through the sirens.

In the François Mitterrand media library, still Saint Denis, is a great evening of Board Games about fear and excitement that awaits you from 5 to 8 p.m.: Sub Terra, Fear Primate, Light, La Petite Mort, Mysterium, Monster Hunt or Dream Catcher… if you don’t know these games, maybe it’s time to discover them. If you prefer fairy tales and plays, from 17:00 to 18:00 there is “Salad Conté” by Jean-Bernard Ifanohiza, which brings us back to the atmospheres of the old evening around Bébèt and Grandiab. From 19-20, the Aberash company will play its show “Captain, My Captain”, the story of Firinga, the little girl excluded from the boys, who dreams of becoming a boat captain.

to Saint Andrew, for this Reading Night, the Adrien Minienpoullé library team has moved to the Parc du Colosse for a wonderful evening of fairy tales, stories and plays this Friday, January 20! Even the best disguise will be rewarded. For example, at 20:00, come and discover the story of Mamie Babouk from the company Piton des Z’arts, but also in several workshops from 17:30 to 21:00.

In the west, in the cultural space of Héva in pOSSESSION, follow a musical performance by the group Neshama, in homage to poets and writers on the theme of fear, from Daniel Honoré to Eugène Dayot through Alain Peters and Jean Albany. Happening Friday, January 20 at 9 p.m.

Every evening until Sunday, from 18:00 to 20:00, a “living and scary library” opens its doors: 3 or 4 people stand in front of the public with one or more books and the public chooses which one to read wants to hear.
