The Internet is both a great tool, but it also carries many dangers that threaten our children every day: cyberbullying, excessive exposure to screens, pornography, video games, sexual predators, identity theft, fraud, fake news (fake information ),…

Cyberbullying affects an average of 3 children per class in France. Fortunately, there are many solutions to protect them: parental controls, setting family rules (for example, 30-minute tickets), being able to speak up about suspicious images or information displayed on the screen, tools such as Digital Coach, Family Link (to set a time limit) or AdBlock (to block ads)... Any illegal content can be reported at https://www.internet-signalement.gouv.fr.

The role of parents

“When the child falls for a trick or is deceived, there is no need to blame him. Explain to him that it is not his fault and that as parents we are there to support him”, explains Cyril Doll. Positioning yourself as a parent is important, there is a time to let things happen, to do things together, to see things happen and to make people do things.

Some interventions in the classroom

Cyril Doll also intervened among the students of all classes of the school by distributing questionnaires (indestructible type) to the children. “It is important that awareness from a young age. These children have been born into an increasingly digital world and are often much more comfortable with apps or the internet than their parents.

During my various interventions, several children told me that they had gone to get their parents’ credit card for fraudulent online purchases,” he explains.

In the CE2 class, Madeline realized “that you can’t earn a phone by doing nothing”. In the question “What is the purpose of circulating false information?”. “, Lilwen answers without hesitation: “It is to gain subscribers and therefore to earn money”.

When Cyril Doll asks if you can get free lives in a video game, “it’s not true” shouts the 23 children in class CE2 in chorus. “It is such a complex subject, which evolves so quickly, that we need qualified speakers to discuss it with children and adults. This presentation is part of the extension of a project on bullying, carried out with the children and the educational team”, underlines Cécile Sonnet, director of the 2 Vallées school.

Thanks to the advice given by Cyril Doll, all the children of the 2 Vallées school have now become “superheroes” of the Internet!
