The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the most beloved titles in the RPG genre, and given its popularity, the game’s developer, Bethesda, has released multiple versions of the game on different generations of consoles. During the decade of waiting for Elder Scrolls VI, Bethesda has ensured that Skyrim has used every possible revenue stream on all platforms. This approach has been widely remembered online, but there’s no denying that it’s also paid off for Bethesda, as well as Skyrim fans willing to reinvest in the title across consoles, as more content has been added with each update. .

To keep Elder Scrolls fans from completely losing interest in the franchise while enduring a seemingly interminable wait for The Elder Scrolls 6’s release, Bethesda has invested in reselling its most popular title until people decide to stop buying it. Luckily for Bethesda, gamers are still very interested in playing Skyrim. This is partly due to the sheer scale of the game, with old players not yet discovering all the game has to offer, and new fans just starting their journey as a Dragonborn.

Trying to bring something new to the table every few years when the exact same game is released is no easy task, but Bethesda – with the help of its modding community – has managed to pull it off for most. Whether a player has only experienced the original game or played each of the many different iterations of Skyrim, each of these versions offers a slightly different taste of the same dragon-slaying dish. There is no wrong way to play the game, but there are definitely versions that offer a more complete overall experience.

Skyrim Base Edition

Available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 upon release, the original Skyrim was a truly epic RPG. There have been a number of hiccups involving glitches and other technical glitches in Skyrim, but these flaws have become ingrained in players’ memories and become one of the game’s most beloved qualities. The unintentional hilarity that these bugs and glitches brought to a serious game was enough to instantly turn Skyrim into one of the most memorable (and memorable) games ever.

Especially for the core set, however, not all versions were created equal. The PC version has always been hailed as inherently superior for a number of reasons, including better graphics and framerate, as well as the invaluable ease of access to modding and console commands. The Xbox 360 version worked as expected, but Skyrim on the PlayStation 3 was rendered unplayable by a nasty bug that wiped the game’s memory after playing for some time. This was eventually fixed, but Skyrim was borderline unplayable on PS3 at launch. Check out the first Skyrim trailer below:

Skyrim Special Edition

Five years after the release of the fifth Elder Scrolls title, a remastered version was released for consoles and PC, followed by the Nintendo Switch three years later. As expected, Skyrim: Special Edition included enhanced graphics and polished effects along with all three DLCs – Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn – included with purchase. It also introduced mods for consoles, which were previously a perk reserved for the PC versions of the game.

However, more bad news for PlayStation players followed the release of the update. Although the corrupted save bug was fixed, the number of mods available on the PS4 was only a fraction compared to those allowed on the Xbox. Sony imposed this restriction due to concerns about console security, and there was little Bethesda could do about it.

When the Skyrim Special Edition port for Nintendo finally launched (trailer above), some gamers were skeptical that a game as massive as Skyrim would work well on a portable system. Skyrim on Switch may lack survival mode, but it still handled the special edition pretty well. The Nintendo Switch port supported enhanced graphics and even offered motion control as a unique bonus, something players found incredibly fun for its odd difficulty. There were some problems with text and compressed audio, but overall the Nintendo version was very well received.

Skyrim VR

Virtual reality is a newer video game trend, but one that Skyrim has put to good use. Skyrim VR added to the adventures of the Dragonborn, it took on a whole new universe of immersion. At the same time the Special Edition was released for the Nintendo Switch, Bethesda had optimized Skyrim for VR on a number of platforms that offered it. Virtual reality in terms of slaying dragons and casting spells on the dead introduced a whole new experience to even the most seasoned Skyrim fans, injecting the game with an extra layer of intensity and difficulty.

Of course, players couldn’t spend hours immersed in VR like in other ports due to their rapid exhaustion, but it allowed them to understand the rigors their character has to go through every time they connect. Carving out an existence in Skyrim is difficult, and playing it in VR makes it more apparent than ever. Eating 20 wheels of cheese and other food in Skyrim at once, running for days and not even a wink of sleep will cost VR players more than any other kind. The VR port of Skyrim has always been successful. Check out the official trailer below from GameSpot Trailers on YouTube:

Skyrim: Anniversary Edition

Recently, Bethesda celebrated the 10th anniversary of Skyrim in 2021 with a special anniversary edition that was made available for all its platforms. Players can purchase the game in its entirety, which includes the entire Skyrim base game and its three DLCs, or they can upgrade to their previous Special Edition for much less. Game improvements include improved graphics and gameplay, as well as reduced loading screens. Fishing has been added as a new mechanic and all Creation Club approved mods are present as well as brand new mods to change the look of weapons and armor.

Some other additions to Skyrim: Anniversary Edition include a survival mode, which makes the consequences in the game much more realistic and dangerous. For example, the player must sleep, cure all ailments, and eat enough food before too much time passes, otherwise they will be permanently damaged. There are also some quests added to the latest edition of Skyrim, under the name of Saints and Tempters. A host of new ingredients and crafting recipes are available worldwide through the Rare Curios Anniversary Edition DLC.

Skyrim Special Edition vs. Anniversary Edition

The differences between the Skyrim Anniversary and Skyrim Special editions make it clear that players who haven’t experienced the game yet would be fine with either purchase, but the Anniversary Edition features more content and better graphics, making it the better version. of Skyrim available. . in the year 2022.

Players who want to try a different kind of Skyrim Special Edition should watch the official Skyrim release video via Amazon Echo and Alexa:

Skyrim has been such a successful title that Bethesda has deemed it worthy of multiple releases, and while this ritual has become something of a joke among Elder Scrolls fans, it looks like Skyrim will be appearing frequently in play stores for a while. The only thing that will prevent the addition of new versions of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is the inevitable release of The Elder Scrolls 6.
