Aval Island is of great interest to the media, why?
It’s true, there is tremendous media enthusiasm that comes from the French’s interest in history, legends and islands in general. Team “Roots and Wings” tournament in 2021-2022; she brought to Aval an island specialist who is also a researcher and writer. I know she will come out with a great report. And to me, the message I wanted to convey was the importance of preserving and preserving heritage with a capital P – cultural, historical and biodiversity -.
More than two years after buying it, are you still under the spell of Aval Island?
Love at first sight is still there, due to the fact of spending time there and preparing the project there: launching the island for rent. It is an island that experiences it, that is out of time. The vibe is so strong and special, related to the many stone remains and the Arthurian legends that are told there. There is no disappointment, but reality. Trees are not expected to fall, especially on the roof of the house. There are unforeseen events that become more complex to manage because you are on an island.
Do you live Downstream?
I don’t live there. The island is a rental project. Starting this Wednesday, November 9, 2022, I will be accepting first rentals (weekly or nightly). Or you can rent the entire island for weddings, seminars, yoga “retreats” and more. (€1000 per night), so only the farmhouse for 8 to 10 people, which is located in front of the so-called “tomb” of King Arthur (€500 per night). In the house, a room has been decorated, in the spirit of the Arthurian legends, with a round table, armour, medieval curtains… It has been a private island for generations, it has never been shown. This is the first time that individuals and businesses will be able to use it (outside the private environment); Aval is accessible on foot at low tide in ten minutes.
“This is the first time that individuals and businesses will have access to this island, which has been private for generations.
What exactly have you accomplished since the summer of 2020?
I have not remained idle. These two years have been marked by many renovations (Editor’s note: contribution of comfort, autonomy), risk management and forest park. Everything is deserved and everything is appreciated more on an island. We are truly faced with energy moderation; there is no power pole coming to your house and we are not in the same time frame. To my surprise, nature was very demanding. At first I was advised to mow the lawn all the time, crazy; I tried something much greener and with great success. I manage the space (Editor’s note: 6ha) more in grassy grounds with minimally maintained paths, this develops biodiversity and, in the end, I have more insects and birds.
In your initial project, you were talking about virtual reality. What about?
We made a digital twin (a 3D digital twin) of the island which will soon be available on our website. We can walk there, as in a metaverse, from a phone, a computer or a virtual reality headset, whether we are in Singapore or New York. In digital doubles, why not we could create stories and gates, with a castle, a dragon, Excalibur on the rock…
