A free metaverse designer training sponsored by Meta in France?

On Thursday, October 27, the Metavers Academy was launched in Marseille in partnership with Simplon, the South region and Meta (the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and Messenger).

Opened in 2013, Simplify is a social and solidarity company that offers training in digital professions. Through its network of more than a hundred schools in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, it has been able to train more than 20,000 people. The school is present in Marseille, in a beautiful sunny cocoon dedicated to the dedicated enterprise that wants to build the future of the city of Marseille and called: “Le Cloître”.

It was in these premises that the companies of augmented reality met last Thursday, the management of Simplon, but also Laurent Solly, the Director of Southern Europe of Meta, and Renaud Muselier, President of the Southern Region, to launch the Academy of Metaversewhich will be, thanks to funding from Meta and the Southern Region, completely free for its students.

It has been noticed that companies are looking for people trained in the new professions of the metaverse. It is also the companies of the region that will allow the operation of this new academy, as they know the needs of the market and in this way make it possible to adapt the training. Ludovic Chaigneau, CEO of the SigmaLynx design office specializing in 3D building information modeling, insists for example on the 3D and comprehensive need in the construction and real estate industries.

France Competence identifies the profession of developer designer specialized in immersive and metaverse technologies as developing and already under pressure in the labor market. This is why the formation of the Metaverse Academy will be dedicated to this lesson.

The afternoon was characterized by a visit to the premises of Simplon in Manastir, with meetings with students and companies, then a conference, a discussion with the press and finally a cocktail. The latter is at the center of a kind of fair for the presentation of goods and services offered by the school’s partner companies, already committed to hosting their working students.

During the conference, Véronique Saubot, CEO of Simplon, reminds us that 6,000 digital jobs are unfilled in the South region. Therefore, training is essential in this situation. That of the Metavers Academy begins on December 5 in Marseille. It will be extended to other cities in France: Nice then Paris and Lyon. Madame Saubot quotes Mark Twain: “They didn’t know it was impossible so they did it” She adds: “So we did it!”

Renaud Muselier explains that all the science fiction books he read in his youth, especially those by Jules Verne, ended up coming true. Therefore, the metaverse is not as unrealistic as that. “We must be pioneers“, he said before the assembly.

He sees in the various uses of the metaverse, the possibility, among other things, to promote the South region (which should no longer be called PACA, Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur, under penalty of lecture by the guardian of the country) , internationally. The region is indeed the second most visited region of France, itself the most visited country in the world. He specifies that the metaverse can also become a tool to preserve certain places in the region at all costs, from mass tourism by making them visitable in 3D immersion, for example.

When asked by BeinCrypto which application in the metaverse he is most excited to see come to fruition, he says healthcare. As a doctor, he wants to see both medical training take place in part in the virtual world, but also one day the success of seeing this technology allow to a surgeon specialist to save a patient whom he could not have reached much due to physical distance.

Meta South Europe director Laurent Solly points out that 70% of digital occupations in 2030 are still unknown today. He cites a study by the Analysis Group that estimates that the metaverse alone will represent $440 billion of annual GDP in Europe by 2030. The company, remember, is also the one that paid the largest R&D budget in this field.

He would like to emphasize that as part of the partnership with the South Region and Simplon for this new Academy, the Meta group is not specifically trained in the Metaverse of his group, but in technology in general, wanting to develop the ecosystem as a whole. . Therefore, students will be free to work for themselves or for the employer of their choice.

Mr. Solly tells us during his press conference that Meta’s first virtual reality research lab outside the United States is in Paris, France. Asked if the French legislation risks being an inhibitor for the development of the metaverse in France, he answers that it is in the process of definition. And this especially at the European level. He takes the example of the two directives adopted by Europe DSA and DMA and says that now the EU will move to the regulation of the virtual world, which Meta encourages.

Indeed, he recalls that his company participated in the reflection on GDPR, noting the importance of regulation in the digital context and hopes that democratically elected governments will legislate to create a framework for the ecosystem.

Mr. Muselier emphasizes the lack of partners who are members of the “Big Five” (often nicknamed “GAFAM”) with regional institutions and therefore welcomes with enthusiasm this catalyst that is Meta. Accepting this bet on the metaverse, Renaud Muselier joins the rare group of politicians to understand the importance of Web3which is already considered to be the industry of the 4th industrial revolution.
